I spent this week with my good friend Kate over at change.org directing and editing a victory video for one of their campaigns.

Petitions started through change.org collected over 1.8 million signatures, culminating in the Boy Scouts of America voting to end a longtime ban on openly gay scouts. You can check out the video here –

OPERATOR chosen as finalist for SFFS Hearst Screenwriting Grant

OPERATOR at the Sundance Creative Producing Summit

I just got back from a great weekend at the Sundance Resort, representing our script OPERATOR at the Sundance Creative Producing Summit. It was an intensive weekend of meeting incredible people, from advisors to other fellows, and hearing about some amazing projects. I can’t wait to see them realized and on the screen.

I was so busy and in the moment that I forgot to take many pictures, but I couldn’t pass up this photo of a weird naked alien soap dispenser. Feel free to composite it into your next ’70s era Sci-Fi farce -

OPERATOR debuts as part of the Sundance Screenplay Reading Series

This Monday Sharon and I unleashed OPERATOR onto a packed audience at the Actor’s Gang theater in Culver City. We had an incredible cast who rocked the performance – we learned so much from working with the actors and hearing the terrific audience response.

RECESSIVE in Australia and Korea

RECESSIVE will be screening this month as part of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival. Click HERE for more info on the Australian screenings.

The film will also screen in Korea in April as part of the International Women’s Film Festival in Seoul. Links and info soon!

OPERATOR supported by Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant

OPERATOR, my new feature screenplay co-written with the lovely Sharon Greene, has been given a grant through Sundance and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to promote research and development on the science and technology themes in the script.

Starting the project, Sharon and I were determined not to write anything “science-tastic” (you know what I mean. We’ve all seen it.), and this grant will go a long way in realizing that dream. We’re so excited to do in depth research on speech recognition technology, AI, and more, and to meet with scientists in these fields.

OPERATOR chosen for Sundance Screenwriters lab

My new project OPERATOR, co-written with my lovely wife Sharon Greene, was chosen as one of 12 projects for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab this January! Here’s a little taste of this upcoming feature -

Logan Kibens (co-writer/director) and Sharon Greene (co-writer) / Operator (U.S.A.): In this existential comedy, when a programmer is hired to create the ideal personality for an automated call center, his attempts to quantify what it means to be human throws his life into chaos.

We just got back from the lab and the festival, and had an incredible, enriching time. The advisors and other filmmakers are fantastic, and I can’t wait to see all the projects develop. Check out more about them here, in the Sundance Press Release.

MCA Chicago blogs about projections for “Origins”

“Rock Jetty” screening in Bilbao, Spain

My short film “Rock Jetty” will be screening November 14th, 2011 as part of ZINEBI 53, the International Festival of Documentary and Short Films of Bilbao. “Rock Jetty” is a visual meditation on the death of a good friend of mine who was swept into the ocean and killed on the coast of Oregon. McKell was an extraordinary person and filmmaker, and “Rock Jetty” was made as part of my process of understanding these events.

Liz Lerman’s “The Matter of Origins” at MCA Chicago Nov, 2011

Liz Lerman’s multimedia dance piece “The Matter of Origins” will be performing at the MCA Chicago Nov 10 – 13th, 2011. The show is an evening-length dance piece representing origins stories through science, particle physics, astrophysics, religion and folklore. The first act is comprised of full stage, half circle of projection screens with multimedia content throughout (that’s the part I did…). Liz and I collaborated for years up to the premiere of Origins last fall, working with scientists from CERN, Hubble, the University of Michigan, and more. We got to explore the tunnels of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, or as I like to call it “SwitzerFrance”, and the images collected there are part of what make up the design for Origins.

I’m really proud of the design of the show, and if you have a chance to check it out you should. The dancing is fierce, and the experience is thought provoking. For more info and some teaser videos, check out the MCA WEBSITE.
